wouldn't you say that the parade is no longer about pride, but more about shock value, and can be down right vulgar?
oh honey child, better men and women than you have tried asking this question but in more creative terms, im not going to argue with you. Yes the pride parade or whatever you want to call it can be seen as vulgar, but to you what may seem as “vulgar” I believe is freedom, to dress, act, talk, celebrate however you feel without the name calling behind our backs, the sinister stares from across the walk or the hissing and the scowling.
You will never understand and because of that you will always see this parade as vulgar or a “freak show” but i and many others out there dont care what you think, because these parades will carry on forever and ever and they may change but at its core it will always be seen by the gay and gay friendly community as a “PRIDE parade” signifying strength, unity, equality and diversity.
Now let me leave you with this thought, do you really think a “straight pride parade” would become any different than a gay pride parade?

So Pride Toronto 2011 has officially started, but the one day I truly am looking forward to is the last day of pride, July 3rd..
Not because its the last day but because that’s when the real party starts, the streets are packed with people, the sound of dance music filling the air, laughter, the smells of fabulous foods, not to mention the hordes of homosexual and heterosexual individuals alike celebrating diversity and equality, and lets not forget that on this day the greatly anticipated pride parade rolls down the streets!
This will be my third year attending the Toronto Pride Festival, and this year will be substantially better than the last, I mean last year was great and so was the year before that but this year since I work at a gay bar right smack dab in the center of church street, I get to participate more than ever!!!
Unfortunately since I work in a gay bar I HAVE to work during the last day of pride, but there is an upside to this. We can take breaks through out the night so if we want to see our friends or family during that time we can, and here’s the BEST part we are allowed to wear whatever it is we want that night so basically you can wear anything from a jock strap to a full suit if you wanted, so im going to get creative.
Heres a preview of what im planning on wearing :) Care to guess what my theme is? Baseball cap, Nerdy Glasses, Sporty Underwear, Suspenders & my Nike High tops.
Come to think of it, its hard to believe that on july 3rd theres only going to be a thin layer of cotton and elastic blend separating my junk from the general public…and im okey with that :)
